Participation

Attendance at the IAU XXVIII General Assembly (GA2012) is open to all Individual Members of the IAU. Students of astronomy and professional astronomers who are not IAU-members are equally welcome to attend. Upon submitting their registration, they will be issued an invitation from the IAU.

Please note that an invitation from the IAU General Secretary to attend the General Assembly 2012 does not imply any financial commitment towards the invitee by the IAU Secretariat or by the Chinese NOC.

Each GA2012 participant (IAU Individual Member or non-Member participant) may register accompanying guest(s). Registered guests are welcome to attend the Invited Discourses but are not expected to attend the scientific sessions. In all other respects, they enjoy the same privileges as full participants.

Registration Payment

Registrations can be paid by credit card or wire transfer. Credit card payments can be processed online through the registration form.

NOTE

1. Students affiliated with universities and institutions qualify for the discounted student registration fees. A personalized letter, signed by the head of his/her university or institutional department with a copy of a valid student card, should be sent by fax or e-mail to the General Assembly organisers (+86-10-64807730, iauga@nao.cas.cn). Students must be under 35 years of age (<35) .The registration will be processed after this letter and the copy of the student card has been received.
2. Astronomers over 70 years of age qualify for the senior registration fee. A copy of a valid ID should be sent by fax or e-mail to the General Assembly organisers. The registration will be processed after this document has been received.
3. No registration will be confirmed until payment has been received.

To be able to benefit discounted registration fees, your registration and full payment must have been received prior to the deadline listed below. If payment is not received prior to the deadline, the discount is not valid and will not be applied.

5. The complete set of Proceedings of the 2012 IAU GA comprises the Proceedings of each of the eight Symposia and the “Highlights of Astronomy 16” covering the Joint Discussions and Special Sessions.  These will be published as nine separate volumes by Cambridge University Press in the course of 2013.
6. Normal attendees are obliged to purchase one volume of the Proceedings, and the cost is included in the registration fee. This is in line with current practice for non-GA IAU symposia.  For the GA, the IAU and CUP have agreed on the very heavily discounted unit price of 420 CNY (early online registration) or 556 CNY (regular online registration).
7. The registration fee for students and seniors does not include a volume of the Proceedings, but they can optionally purchase one at either 420 CNY (early online registration) or 556 CNY (regular online registration).  This option is available on the Registration form.
8. Additional volumes of the Proceedings can be ordered at registration and will be offered at the much reduced prices of 315 CNY and 420 CNY each for early and late online registration respectively. On-site purchase of additional copies of the Proceeding will be charged 556 CNY each.
9. Please note that we received bank transfers with incomplete details, not allowing us to identify the source of the payment. If you have made payment by transfer, we strongly urge you to check and provide us with a proof of payment so that we can track the payment to your registration. Such proof can be send to iauga@nao.cas.cn together with a scan bank transfer statement, registration number and your full name. After identification, your registration will be promptly confirmed.

Participants who are unable to use this on-line form should contact the General Assembly organisers for instructions on how to proceed. Registrations by telephone are not accepted.

Confirmation of registration

When the registration form and payment have been processed, the registrant will receive written confirmation by e-mail. This confirmation letter should be presented at the GA registration desk upon arrival in order to receive General Assembly materials.
